Long standing ‘Port stalwart Colin Heron died early on Wednesday morning in the hospice in Macclesfield. Colins funeral will be held at Macclesfield Crematorium on Monday 25th July at 10.30 am. Lets give him a true "PORT" send off!
Colin will be well known to many of the older members having played for the Felons (the colts) back in the 60’s and returned in the 70’s to continue his career at senior level. Born in Burnley but brought up in Stockport Colin was the ultimate team player turning out for sides at all levels and filling every position from prop to wing. He was also a loyal and hard working club man working for a time with the team responsible for the ground and throwing himself enthusiastically in to the social events that were a feature of the 70’s and 80’s.There was never any doom and gloom when Colin was around!
A talented, humorous, supportive, willing and even handed individual it was typical of this most modest of men that when his playing career ended he put something back into the game by serving as a referee. In later years he was a keen supporter and was at Twickenham with his old friends on that emotive day when ‘Port lifted the cup.
Colin made many good friends at ‘Port on both the rugby and squash sides and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are obviously with his wife Dawne and his family and friends at this very sad time.
